Ferromagnetic coupling through spin polarization in the hexanuclear [MnII(3)CuII(3)] complex.

2004

A novel Cu(II)-Mn(II) hexanuclear complex of formula [[MnCuL](3)(tma)](ClO(4))(3).8H(2)O [H(2)L = macrocyclic Robson proligand; H(3)tma = trimesic acid] has been obtained by connecting three heterobinuclear [Cu(II)Mn(II)L](2+) cationic species through the trimesate anion. The complex exhibits a C(3) rotational symmetry, imposed by the geometry of the bridging ligand. The interaction within each Mn(II)-Cu(II) pair is antiferromagnetic (J = -16.7 cm(-1)). A weak ferromagnetic coupling among the three S = 2 resulting spins through the tricarboxylato bridge leads to a S = 6 ground spin state, for which the spin polarization mechanism is responsible.

Electrochemically Induced Reversible and Irreversible Coupling of Triarylamines

2011

The electrochemical coupling and dimerization behavior of the low molecular compounds triphenylamine (TPA) and 9-phenylcarbazole (PHC) in comparison to tri-p-tolylamine (p-TTA) with para-blocked methyl groups has been investigated in detail. In contrast to the unsubstituted radical cations of TPA and PHC, the radical cations of p-TTA are stable in the radical cation state and do not undergo any further coupling reactions. However, we found that the dicationic state of p-TTA does undergo two different competitive reaction pathways: (1) an irreversible intramolecular coupling reaction which leads to phenylcarbazole moieties and (2) a reversible intermolecular dimerization leading to charged σ…

Reflecting on the Tensions of Research Utilization: Understanding the Coupling of Academic and User Knowledge

2018

This paper addresses debate of how research is utilized that questions measuring ‘acts of use’ of research (patents, spin-offs, or license income). A science system is a progressive business where research builds upon diverse existing research and knowledge. The extent of research utilization is determined by the extent to which prior research can feed into research that ultimately leads to acts of use. We use the term ‘knowledge transformers’ to refer to research users that transform academic knowledge into the socio-economic domain, and define ‘usability’ of prior research as the ease with which it may contribute to research that knowledge transformers are able to absorb. We argue that to…

Tigliane diterpenes from the latex of Euphorbia obtusifolia with inhibitory activity on the mammalian mitochondrial respiratory chain

2003

Abstract Six diterpenes isolated from the latex of Euphorbia obtusifolia Poir. (Euphorbiaceae) were evaluated for their inhibition of the NADH oxidase activity in submitochondrial particles from beef heart. 4,20-Dideoxyphorbol-12,13-bis(isobutyrate) was the most potent inhibitor and showed an inhibitory concentration with IC 50 value of 2.6±0.3 mM. In the present study, some structure–activity trends are suggested for the inhibitory activity of the mammalian mitochondrial respiratory chain of these natural product derivatives of 4-deoxyphorbol esters.

Gli Anapesti di Plauto e di Seneca

2014

Greek Marschanapaste were first divided into dimeters by Alexandrian philologists. This division (that reflects a syntactical tendency) influenced Roman dramatists deeply. Plautus composed real anapaestic dimeters sometimes ordering them as a κατὰ στίχον series, sometimes (and more frequently) coupling them as septenarii or octonarii, but he did not compose κατὰ σύστηµα series (as scholars generally suppose) and most of these series are more conveniently interpreted as octonarii mixed with septenarii. Seneca’s anapaests should still be interpreted as dimeters mixed with monometers (the dimeters are marked off by hiatus and indifferens, while sinaphia strangely enough operates only within a …

Single mechano-gated channels activated by mechanical deformation of acutely isolated cardiac fibroblasts from rats

2010

Aim Mechanosensitive conductances were reported in cardiac fibroblasts, but the properties of single channels mediating their mechanosensitivity remain uncharacterized. The aim of this work was to investigate single mechano-gated channels (MGCs) activated by mechanical deformations of cardiac fibroblasts. Methods Currents through single MGCs and mechanosensitive whole-cell currents were recorded from isolated rat atrial fibroblasts using the cell-attached and whole-cell patch-clamp configurations respectively. Defined mechanical stress was applied via the patch pipette used for the whole-cell recordings. Results Under resting conditions occasional short openings of two types of single MGCs …
